The Texans waived/injured Carter (hamstring) on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Carter ended his rookie season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, and it's uncertain if his current injury is related. Regardless, the 25-year-old cornerback will land on injured reserve if he isn't claimed on waivers. Carter played two games for the Texans last year and stuck to special teams.

Rockies' Zach Agnos: Works five shutout frames as opener
    10m ago

Agnos allowed one hit and issued one walk while striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Thursday.

Coming into the contest, the expectation was that the Rockies were opting for a bullpen game, with Agnos working as the opener. While that did play out, Agnos gave Colorado close to a traditional starter's depth, as he was able to finish a career-high five innings. Agnos' 71 pitches weren't quite reflective of a typical starter's workload, but they got him deep enough to qualify for the win, though Colorado's offense was unable to muster enough support to give him that victory. Nonetheless, this was a very promising outing for Agnos in his first career start. The right-hander had previously completed four innings in long relief twice this season, so he seems to have his arm built up enough to work as a spot starter again if that becomes a need for the Rockies.

Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Hurls seven scoreless frames
    23m ago

Rodriguez allowed four hits and walked one batter while striking out four over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.

Rodriguez took his first loss of the season against Colorado in his previous start, but he shut down the Rockies' offense in the rematch. The veteran southpaw retired the first nine batters he faced and allowed just one Colorado runner to reach third base. As usual, Rodriguez didn't miss many bats -- he tallied just seven whiffs and four punchouts -- but he nonetheless managed his fifth quality start through 10 outings. It's been a resurgent season for Rodriguez, who posted an ERA above 5.00 in each of his previous two campaigns. So far this season, he's pitched to a stellar 2.24 ERA despite a modest 43:23 K:BB through 60.1 innings.

Yankees' Jose Caballero: Expected to be activated Friday
    1h ago

Caballero (finger) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Caballero is on track to return to action just one day after what would've been a minimum stay on the injured list with a right middle-finger fracture. The 29-year-old didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment, and he'll likely slot in as New York's everyday shortstop once again moving forward, making Anthony Volpe's role uncertain in the near future. Outfielder Spencer Jones and relief pitcher Yovanny Cruz were optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Blue Jays, making room for Caballero and starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (elbow) to be reinstated from the injured list Friday.

The right-hander combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out three batters in those appearances. The move creates room on the major-league roster for the return of Gerrit Cole (elbow) ahead of his 2026 with New York on Friday.

Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Leads Cavs in scoring Thursday
    2h ago

Mitchell finished with 26 points (8-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 8-9 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one block over 39 minutes in Thursday's 109-93 loss to New York in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Mitchell hasn't been the most efficient shooter during the first two games of the series, going 6-for-18 from behind the arc. He managed to take better care of the ball Thursday after committing four turnovers in Game 1. Still, the 29-year-old couldn't do enough to lift the Cavaliers to a win to tie the series up at one game each. There were rumblings that Mitchell might have sustained a leg injury in the 115-104 overtime loss to the Knicks to begin the Eastern Conference Finals. However, nothing has been confirmed. Both clubs will meet for Game 3 on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see if Mitchell pops up on the injury report heading into that contest.

Hart paced the Knicks in the scoring column, and while he temporarily exited the game in the third quarter after tweaking his ankle, he was cleared to return for the final period to help close out Game 2. The Villanova product enjoyed the majority of his scoring success from beyond the arc Thursday, and his five made treys marks his best effort of the postseason. Hart also excelled as a playmaker and on the defensive end, where he accounted for two of New York's five swipes.

Hart tweaked his ankle after an awkward landing in the third quarter. He was observed limping after it happened and exited to the locker room. If the star forward is out or limited in any capacity, Isaiah Joe, Jared McCain and especially Ajay Mitchell would all be options for expanded roles.
