    Will Grier: Elects to retire
    2h ago

Grier announced Wednesday that he will retire from the NFL, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

In conjunction with the QB's decision to hang up his cleats, the Panthers placed Grier on the reserve/retired list Wednesday. Now that he's no longer in the mix, the Panthers currently roster veteran backup Kenny Pickett and undrafted rookie Haynes King behind starting signal caller Bryce Young.

Cowboys' George Pickens: Tag deadline passes
    2h ago

Pickens is set to play the 2026 season on the one-year, $27.3 million franchise tag after he and the Cowboys did not reach a long-term extension before Wednesday's deadline, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Pickens has voiced his willingness to play on the one-year franchise tag, so Wednesday's deadline passing without a new contract doesn't come as a surprise. Playing for a long-term deal or future free-agency payday should only reinforce his fantasy appeal as one of the top downfield and red-zone targets for Dak Prescott (knee), and alongside CeeDee Lamb

Saints' Travis Etienne: Set to combine with Kamara
    2h ago

Etienne's teammate, Alvin Kamara, has reportedly agreed to remain with the Saints this season on a reworked contract, Arye Pulli of USA Today reports.

There had been speculation about Kamara's status with the Saints this offseason, but his amended deal paves the way for him to work in tandem this season with Etienne, who inked a four-year, $52 million deal with the team in March. As Pulli notes, Kamara's return gives New Orleans two proven playmakers in the backfield. Etienne -- who ran for 1,107 yards on 260 carries in 17 regular-season games with the Jaguars last season -- is thus poised to handle a significant portion of his new team's rushing workload in 2026, while Kamara -- a versatile receiving back -- is available to see his share of touches as well in an RB corps that also includes Devin Neal and Kendre Miller.

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Finalizing new deal with Saints
    2h ago

Kamara and New Orleans are finalizing terms on a new contract, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Kamara is closing in on a new deal that will allow him to remain with the Saints, presumably by lowering the $10.4 million cap hit his current contract carries for the 2026 campaign. The soon-to-be 31-year-old has spent his entire NFL career to date in New Orleans and remains a versatile playmaker capable of contributing in a valuable complementary role behind new starting running back Travis Etienne. Across 11 regular-season appearances in 2025, Kamara rushed 131 times for 471 yards and one score and secured 33 of 39 targets for 186 yards.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Aims to play Week 1
    3h ago

Mahomes (knee) continues to aim to be ready for the Chiefs' regular-season opener against the Broncos on Sept. 14, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

"That's my goal," Mahomes noted Wednesday during an interview with Yahoo Sports. "I've said that since the beginning is being ready to go Week 1. I can't predict the future and I know that it's a long process. It's not just my decision, but at the same time I'm going to give the doctors and the coaches every single opportunity I can to let me be out there Week 1." With that in mind, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com relayed last month that coach Andy Reid said Mahomes (knee) should "be able to do some things in camp," with added context on that front set to arrive after the Chiefs' veterans report on July 28th. Mahomes -- who is bouncing back from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in Week 15 of last season -- participated in offseason workouts but was held out of full-team drills.

Falcons' Nathan Carter: In mix for No. 3 gig
    5h ago

Carter will compete with Tyler Goodson and Cash Jones for the Falcons' No. 3 running back spot during training camp, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.

Carter handled a depth role last season, rushing nine times for 60 yards across seven regular-season appearances while also playing 49 snaps on special teams. Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. are locked into the top two backfield roles, so Carter's path to the roster depends on how much special-teams value he's able to demonstrate, as well as holding off Goodson and Jones. Even if he wins the No. 3 job, Carter won't have a path to fantasy relevance as long as Atlanta's top two running backs remain on the field.

Astros' Mike Burrows: Week away from mound work
    26m ago

General manager Dana Brown said Wednesday that Burrows (elbow) is expected to begin throwing off a mound within the next 7-to-10 days, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Burrows was placed on the injured list Monday due to right elbow neuritis. He remains without an official timeline, though the fact that he's at least a week out from resuming bullpen work suggests that he won't be ready to return after the 15-day minimum. Once he's healthy, the Astros are likely to option him back to Triple-A Sugar Land.

The 31-year-old appeared in 24 games (two starts) for the Orioles this season, logging a 5.68 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB across 25.1 innings.

Hawks' Mouhamed Gueye: Out 3-to-4 months with foot injury
    28m ago

Gueye underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a fractured left foot that he suffered during a workout last week, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.

Gueye will be re-evaluated by medical staff in 3-to-4 months, which means he'll miss all of training camp and preseason and likely the start of the 2026-27 regular season. It's a brutal blow for the fourth-year big man, given that the Hawks used the No. 23 overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft to select St. John's product Zuby Ejiofor. Gueye's absence means Ejiofor will have more opportunities in the preseason, and the rookie could establish a key role off the bench behind Onyeka Okongwu and projected backup center Jock Landale (ankle).

Perfetti was a restricted free agent. He had 12 goals, 32 points, 20 PIM, 54 hits and 33 blocks in 68 regular-season appearances with Winnipeg in 2025-26. That was down from 50 points during the 2024-25 regular season, but it was also his fourth consecutive campaign with at least 30 points.
